Hainan and Vietnam are close geographically and are connected by many people-to-people ties, sharing a long history of friendly exchanges. Under the strategic guidance of the two countries' top leaders, China and Vietnam are developing a strategically significant community with a shared future. From 2021 to 2025, Hainan's trade in goods with Vietnam reached 42.37 billion yuan, and in 2025, Hainan's actual investment in Vietnam reached 84.4379 million US dollars, a nearly fourfold increase year-on-year, fully demonstrating the strong resilience and enormous potential of bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

Since the Hainan Free Trade Port began island-wide special customs operations in Dec., 2025, the island province has rapidly become a strategic hub connecting China to the Southeast Asian market. Hainan offers unique policy, geographic, and ecological advantages that provide unprecedented opportunities for Vietnamese companies and products seeking to enter the Chinese market and expand into the international sphere.

The opening of the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency’s Haikou Promotion Office is a practical way to seize the opportunities offered by the Hainan Free Trade Port. Currently, Hainan is focusing on the tourism, modern services, high-tech industries, and tropical specialty high-efficiency agriculture sectors, with a strategic positioning towards future industries such as the seed industry, deep-sea exploration, and aerospace. Vietnam is one of Hainan's most important trading partners in ASEAN, and the two sides have strong complementarity and broad cooperation potential in areas such as tropical agriculture, food processing, cross-border logistics, the digital economy, and medical tourism. Hainan Province maintains a first-class market-oriented, rule-of-law based, internationalized business environment, providing the necessary conveniences for the smooth operation of the trade office, including personnel exchanges, policy interpretation, and project matching. Hainan warmly welcomes more Vietnamese companies to make use of the Hainan Free Trade Port platform to share in the opportunities of China's vast market and jointly explore new spaces for RCEP regional cooperation.

In his address, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan stated that bilateral trade between Vietnam and China reached a record high of US$256 billion in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 24.7%. He noted that China has invested in nearly 6,500 projects in Vietnam, with registered capital exceeding US$35 billion. He emphasized that Hainan, as an important gateway connecting China and Southeast Asia, has enormous potential for economic and trade cooperation with Vietnam, and suggested that both sides facilitate the efficient operation of the office, calling on companies from both countries to make full use of this bridge to promote pragmatic cooperation between the two countries.

As the special customs operations of the Hainan FTP continues to provide more opportunities, the Vietnam Trade Promotion Office in Haikou is expected to become a strategic hub and important platform promoting Vietnam-China economic and trade exchanges, bringing more accurate information matching, more efficient policy consultation, and more convenient business services to companies from both sides while also promoting the deep integration of regional industrial and supply chains.
