Often referred to as “human chess,” jiu-jitsu is a martial art focused on submission techniques and ground control, integrating self-defense and competition. It relies on leverage and technique rather than brute force, embodying the principle of “gentleness overcoming strength.”

Jiu-jitsu combines grappling, throws, holds, and joint locks, enabling even smaller athletes to overcome more physically dominant opponents through skill and strategy.

The sport has become a significant component of modern mixed martial arts and submission grappling disciplines. It made its Asian Games debut in 2018 and will again be showcased at the Sanya 2026 Games, continuing to highlight its tactical precision and technical artistry.
