On November 7, the beach volleyball, beach handball, and sport climbing venue complex for the 6th Asian Beach Games (ABG) Sanya 2026 was officially completed. As the first competition venue cluster of the Games to be finished, it marks a significant milestone and signals that venue construction for the Games is now moving into high gear.

Located on the western side of the Tianya Haijiao Scenic Area, the venue complex, comprising facilities for beach volleyball, beach handball, and sport climbing, now features fully renovated competition and training grounds. The specialized technical sand for beach volleyball and beach handball has been filled, while VIP lounges, athletes’ rest areas, and supporting infrastructure have been freshly renovated. Landscape workers are now trimming lawns and watering greenery, as the venues stand ready for the upcoming events.

The beach volleyball complex includes five competition courts and two training courts, while beach handball features two competition and two training courts. The sport climbing area consists of one competition wall and one training wall.

“The renovation covered all aspects, including power supply, drainage, surface paving, professional equipment, and landscape upgrades, laying a solid foundation for the smooth hosting of the Games,” said Lin Jueyuan, Deputy Director of the Planning and Construction Division of the Venue and City Image Department under the Sanya ABG Organizing Committee.

Most of the 14 competition venues for the Sanya Asian Beach Games are situated along the natural coastline of Sanya Bay, forming a spatial layout of ‘connected coastal clusters and multi-point linkage’ that harmonizes perfectly with the city’s unique seaside landscape.

Other new venues along Sanya Bay are scheduled to begin construction in mid-to-late November, with all basic infrastructure to be completed by the end of December. Temporary supporting facilities will begin installation in March 2026, ensuring all venues meet competition standards by early April.

Moving forward, the Sanya ABG Organizing Committee will strictly adhere to the construction schedule and uphold the highest quality standards, accelerating venue construction with full effort to ensure the successful delivery of a vibrant, green, tech-driven, and stylish sporting event.
